The 13th Biennial Convention of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS)

From June 4 to 9 (PST), The 13th Biennial Convention of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.


On June 4, The 34th Juried Exhibition and The 5th Master Circle Member Exhibition of International Pastel Association opened. At the opening ceremony, Richard Mckinley, president of the international Pastel Association, announced the list of awards of this year's exhibition. The works of 13 chinese artists have been accepted into the exhibitions. Among them, Ma Fubao's "Haiyun" won the Founders Award, Hu minkai's "Kwan RIAM" won the Honorable Mention Nomination Award. On the same day, Yang Hui, president of China pastel Network(CPN), attended the IAPS presidium meeting on behalf of the pastel Art Alliance (China).


IAPS was founded in 1994 by President Emeritus Urania Christy Tarbet as a non-profit organization representing pastel societies worldwide uniting in the common cause to demonstrate the validity and quality of pastel fine art. IAPS hosts academic exchanges and various activities, for instance Biennial Conventions and annual Juried Exhibitions. 


At this conference in 2019, The 5th Master Circle Member Exhibition and The 34th Juried Exhibition of IAPS exhibited 169 pieces of pastel paintings. Including 40 works of masters circle members, 129 accepted works and 20 award-winning works. During this period, more than 60 pastel workshops or demostrations were held, and 26 brands of pastel materials from all over the world participated in the fair.
